Quickhit Football - Free online game improves with new update for more excitement and fun. Plus get tips to improve your own game

Quickhit Football just came out with Upgrade version 3.0.

Since its inception in 2009, Quickhit has been continuously working to improve the playing experience for the growing number of players playing this new and exciting online football game. Update 3.0 is the largest update yet.

The biggest change is that there are now many more types of football experiences one can play.

Play a variety of game scenarios

Previously, one could only play a four quarter game against the computer with two minute quarters or a four quarter game against an online opponent with quarters lasting two minutes and thirty seconds.

Now, it is possible to play five different games of various length depending on preference, ones skill set or time one has available to play.

For instance, one can play:

  • No Huddle. In this game, one only plays the fourth quarter of the game, which lasts three minutes. One has fifteen seconds to call and execute a play or get a delay of game penalty.
  • Blitz. In this game, one plays four quarters lasting one minute each. One had fifteen seconds to pick a play and execute it.

These first two games really challenge ones clock management skills as one must be constantly aware of the managing the clock and using time outs wisely; making for exciting football.

  • The third choice is Sudden Death Overtime where as the name implies one is playing a three minute sudden death overtime quarter where the first person to score within three minutes wins the game. It is a great way to quickly discover and try to exploit opponent’s weaknesses.
  • The fourth choice is playing a standard game; the same type that was in the previous version with four quarters of two and a half minutes in length where the offense has a thirty second clock and the defense has a standard fifteen second clock.
  • The fifth and last is the Marathon Game. In this game there are four quarters with each quarter lasting five minutes. The playclock is forty seconds. This game is a great as with forty seconds, one really has the time to consider and to choose just the right offensive or defensive to match the situation.

Play verses the computer or against other online players

Each one of these five ways to play can be played as single player (against the computer) or multi player (against an on line opponent)

When one chooses to play single player, then one gets three more choices of who to play against.

  • One can match skills against any of the NFL teams. Each team lists its overall rating, offensive ratings, defensive ratings and special teams ratings. So one can choose a weaker, stronger or equally rated team to play.
  • One can play uniqueQuickhit Teams with wild logos and names like Vinnie Testaverde and Warren Moon. The Quickhit teams seem a bit easier to play against than the NFL teams.·
  • Then even more exciting; one can play against friends. But that’s not all, one can play them whether they are on line or not. The AI uses the most successful plays from their playbook to create the game. So one can play ones friends anytime to increase one’s bragging rights for each win.

Play against your friends online

Now it's also possible to track friends wins and losses in a Friends only Leader board. Plus now there is even a My Friends page. And all single player games also have their own leader boards.

Another major change is to the fantasy points earned. It used to be fantasy points kept accruing from level to level. Now after each level, the amount starts back at zero. It seems a bit easier now to earn fantasy points and get to the next level. This makes the game more exciting as the more points earned, the quicker one can train ones team, upping the player levels, therefore becoming harder and harder to beat.

Also in the update some plays have been tweaked to improve the realism of the game. For example;

  • They rewrote the game logic so the AI won’t try for a field goal late in the game when down by more than three points.
  • Then they switched up the blocking assignments on run plays with pulls so they do a better job of picking up the defensive lineman attacking the gap.
  • They also tweaked routes on the fake field goal passes and runs
  • Plus they fixed a bug to allow the zone defenders to follow their rush gap assignments on plays where there wasn’t a handoff, such as wildcat plays and quarterback sneaks.

And as part of the update, there are also improved membership rewards.

The creators of Quickhit Football, it seems are hard at work on Update 3.1 which will add new plays to the playlist.

Tips on how to play

Here are some pointers that might be helpful when first starting out.

Make sure to make the best use of the coaching points one earns to train players. Choose carefully which players to train when and how much to train each player each time one levels up.

Learn as much as possible about what defensive plays should be used in what situations(such as cover 2, cover 3 and nickle defenses) by visiting sites like footballbabble.com.

When choosing an offensive or defensive play, click on the magnifying glass icon on the bottom of the play screen next the ones opponent. Here one will find the opponents depth chart with the levels of each player listed. One can use this to target offensive plays to the weakness of the defense. And when on the defense, notice which rival’s offensive players are the strongest therefore most likely to be given the ball during the game. Then one can choose defensive plays to try to stop those players.

Make use of the drop down boxes on the bottom left of the play screen. Get used to using them. Using them makes finding just the right play in any given situation much easier; preventing delay of game penalties or choosing the wrong play at a crucial moment.

Finally, when choosing an offensive play, look to the right and see which player that play is supposed to go to. If it is a good play for that situation but a weak player is scheduled to execute it, the play might not work.

Be aware also that players change in and out of plays during the course of a game. For example, sometimes one wide receiver with a higher rating will be targeted for a particular play and then later in the game, there will be a different wide receiver with a lower rating targeted for the same play. So make sure to keep an eye on that.

There are probably many other tips for improving the enjoyment of Quickhit Football but these are the ones that currently seem most helpful.

So, thanks to the creators of Quickhit, this game is constantly evolving to bring a better, more realistic and more exciting football playing experience to the internet.
